Receiving UK Benefits in Spain

If you are living in Spain, it is possible to continue receiving UK benefits*. The following are some of the key benefits that can still be claimed even while living abroad. Please remember that all are dependent on UK entitlements and regulations and in almost all cases the amount of National Insurance Contributions (NI) you have made**

Jobseeker’s allowance
SMP – Statutory Maternity Pay (If you work for a UK employer in the EEA)
Statutory Sick Pay (If you work for a UK employer in the EEA)
Incapacity Benefit
Disability Benefits or Severe Disablement Allowance ***
Widow’s benefits or other bereavement benefits
Retirement Pension
Winter Fuel Payments (can be claimed under certain circumstances)

* Also includes members of your family who depend on you (and who live with you)

** The E301 form is a record of UK National Insurance contributions and may help a claim for unemployment benefit in another EU country

*** Disability Benefits – In 2007 the ECJ – European Court of Justice, declared that certain UK disability benefits can be paid to people living abroad

About your entitlement to healthcare and receiving benefits in Spain

If for any reason you stop becoming eligible to receive UK benefits, you will no longer be entitled to receive health care cover from the UK
If you are not a UK State pensioner and do not qualify for these benefits, you may still be able to receive entitlement to treatment. If you do not qualify as a UK state pensioner click here
