A Guide to Pollença

Pollenca is one of the most beautiful and attractive places in Mallorca and also one of the first to develop tourism on the island.

Its great geography of colours makes Pollenca a favoured place for artists. Gradually Pollenca has become home for many Europeans, giving it an almost cosmopolitan character.

Pollenca is highly cultural and there are many galleries and typical craft shops like Galerias Vicenç, and Casa Maria. Here, traditional family heritages of crafts, arts, textile design and embroidery still thrive today.

As far as the weather goes, Pollenca enjoys a fantastic climate and is ideal for nature lovers, golfers, nautical sports and other excursions.

Places of Interest in Pollenca

Every year the people celebrate the ‘Music festival of Pollenca’, regularly attended by H.M. Queen Sofia.

A typical activity is the Sunday Market and the “Fira” in November where local products exhibited.

The best hikes to make across North Mallorca are trips to the Puig de Maria, the Castell del Rei, Vall de Ternelles and ‘La Atalaia de Albercutx’. Also, the Formentor peninsula offers amazing excursions to the mountains Na Blanca and En Fumat.

You could also visit one of the isolated bays such as:

Cala Boquer,
Cala San Vicenç or
Cala Castell. There you will also find the peninsula of Formentor.

Puerto Pollenca

With fabulous white sandy beaches that stretch around huge sweeping bays, sheltered by the wild and rugged headland of Cabo Formentor, Puerto Pollenca retains an unruffled almost leisurely atmosphere reminiscent of days gone by when it was just a small fishing port. A remarkable feature of the town and one that lingers long in the memory is its elegant tree-lined promenade, fringed by shops, restaurants and open-air cafes, where a lazy stroll in the evening soon becomes something of a pleasing ritual and serves to sharpen the appetite.

For the more active there’s a wide choice of water sports available as well as horse riding, tennis and golf, if you take a trip across the headland to the nearby seaside village of Cala San Vicente you’ll find a little rocky cove for snorkelling and two lovely sandy bays.
